Hero, an aspiring martial artist from China, has been accepted as the great Master Jin's disciple. However, everything goes wrong one day as his parents are assassinated, and he is forced to leave for America to become an overworked, underpaid labourer. Accompanied by his best friend, his pregnant wife journeys to New York to find him. They spend a brief, happy period together until she dies shortly after giving birth to twins. Hero then helps his new friends stand up to hostile natives, while he fights his own battles with Jin's arch-rival.
